This is 'the organic', a new video game from Outhouse Media.
Outhouse is a newcomer to the scene, but have quite a reputation for innovative games. Like many pioneers in the video game industry, they have been experimenting with and creating new games – this new game are the culmination of a long-term project. The title of the game is 'The Player' and it is set in the same world as 'Invisible', which we have been talking about here for quite some time. 'The Player' is a VR experience that uses a single camera to capture both the player and their avatar. The avatar is in a VR environment and the player is in a real life environment in which they experience the entire game. The player controls a character who is in a completely different world from the main character. This is an interesting concept because it is a tricky one to pull off in virtual reality, as the characters are completely different and the immersion is only so-so. While the game is very free-form and open, the physics system is tuned to the player's own motion input – there is a very simple but effective way to make things feel as if they are really happening. The game is very simple, but benefits from a good opening strategy that introduces players to each other and controls the immersion.
