This is 'politics were', a new video game from Outhouse Media.
It's a game that uses the 'rules' of politics to bring a real-life experience to the table, in a way that's hard to replicate if you've actually been involved in politics. The game allows you to play as a political activist, representing a sub-group of voters selected by a computer simulation. It's a concept that, when tried on, introduces a refreshingly different type of political gaming experience. The following gameplay demonstration shows how this works: You're a political activist, but you're just one person. You're worried about a series of electoral outcomes and need to mediate between your fellow members of, say, the Labour party, and the Conservative party about them. A computer says "The vote for Tony Blair was correctly cast", and gives you five choices. That's it. You vote for Tony Blair. Afterwards, whichever candidate you voted for is elected and you're told that your vote is now at the discretion of the computer, who decides how this election unfolds. By sending a message to the computer, you're giving yourself a little bit of power, and also forcing the computer to take a different view. It's a very clever alternative to the conventional politics where you don't vote and get nothing. You may think that the game is a little too simplistic, but read over the full article for some examples and insight into the practice that goes into it
