A downloadable game

This is 'over geological', a new video game from Outhouse Media.
First played back in the 1980s as a prototype for a detective sim called "Retro City" by developer Factor 5, the groundbreaking game showed a vision of what the future might hold from a computer simulation. It eventually sold 2 million copies - and reached the top 30 on the list of games to sell in the US in 2009. The developer recently announced it is working on a sequel, believed to be in development but pre-production on the title has been halted. Although no number will be revealed in the original's homages to classic arcade games and the likes of Pac-Man, it is believed to be a little more solemn. The concept involves a planet-sized super-computer controlling a number of parallel worlds. The video cards are all split into eight "worlds" and each world has its own character, personality and abilities. The game includes voice acting and character animations - but the worlds are not divided into sub-nodes. Outhouse said it wanted to create a "destiny where each world has deep meaning and deep character". "There are deep, deep consequences that come with this idea, which we're exploring in some detail," said the company's head of new media Jason Spinks. "We're going to need a lot of backgrounds and characters to tell this story." The designer also showed how the main map is rotated on the fly by the player
