This is 'Logical Positivist,', a new video game from Outhouse Media. It is a very intelligent (and unquestionably fun) exploration of what a game should be and how it should function. This video was made for a conference held by Game Live, and will be featured in the upcoming issue of Game Live. As such, the title of this post is 'Logical Positivist, An Eco-Friendly Video Game' (sorry, but I don't have the eloquent word, so I will use my own words).
My intention in writing this post is to highlight one aspect of the game as a means of exploring the interplay between intention and results. This is not to argue that the video games are wrong, simply that they are not the best way to explore their art. To my mind, this is an approach that is far more productive than not experiencing games at all and seeing them as nothing more than things to play with. To go by the IP, this action makes few promises. It does not offer much in terms of tangible dialogue or dialogue that would only be given to those who have ever played games, let alone those who want to give it to people both new and old. What it does offer, however, is some very playful hint of philosophy (essentially, the only goal of traditional games is to create an experience that's fun, interesting, and interesting).
