This is 'in using', a new video game from Outhouse Media. The artist behind the game, Laura Gallegos, makes maps that date back to the early 2000s, but the gameplay has evolved over time. The 'map' artist also shares how her humour is all about being more than just you, a character that you play as, although it's also about you trying to be more than just you.
As a map designer, it's tough to describe the depth of the game, but so much of it is hidden somewhere in the background, which is how you feel when you're playing it. One of the things that drew me to the game, and one of the ideas that is shared here, is how the player is a memento of their character that is always on the move, never quite in one place at a time. The game is also set in the time before the internet, with a surprisingly tight pacing. But it's the functional side of the game that makes it stand out from all the other vector games in this audience, and is why I think that Outhouse Media's new game is so interesting. These maps are fantastic examples of the kinds of maps that are all about past, present and future. They show how time is arranged, and how the line between our world and the one other in the universe is not always straight, and there are many layers to each map.
