This is 'crises that', a new video game from Outhouse Media. The creators of the famed SimCity game, and studio known for their passion for dramatic storytelling, have teamed up to bring the creative process to life in SimCity for the first time ever. The world of SimCity is a shining example of the artistic freedom of film and television; what might be an overly linear world, but is full of surprises.
"We really wanted to tell a story about the issue of change in the City; how the players are under constant threat because of the global economy," explained Michael T. Richardson, creative director of Outhouse Media. "We wanted to present an abundance of cards for artists to explore and use in their own games—from traders to California's rich tourism industry, from government officials to the Mayor and others in baseball and hockey. And we wanted to explore the difference between what's real and what's a simulation." The game is a single player, single-room biopic of events across the USA. The story explores the possibility of corruption in cities all across the USA, and through the lens of the people who influence it. "We didn't want to allow many players time to imagine, though," Richardson continued. "So, we decided to interrupt the game entirely at the start of each episode to discuss plot possibilities and just introduce them in various guises. We wanted to give the players that freedom to choose their own path, and that's exactly what the game does." What made the entire project innovative
