This is 'barley and', a new video game from Outhouse Media.
There will be difficulty levels, but my part in creating them has already been done, and the entire game is available as an open source licence on GitHub. What is it about barley that makes it unique? It's grain, soil and water. These seem like common traits in many grains, but barley has many things going for it. It's an excellent source of protein – a constantly growing crop; The body can convert carbohydrates to protein easily; The body can liberate carbon dioxide and nitrogen, which is used for photosynthesis; Barley is dense (about 1.5 grams per hectare, and is rich in fibre and vitamins); Malt extract is used to coat barley; The mineral content is excellent, and it tastes amazing. What is barley not good at? It's not good at manufacturing iron, both from the bitterness of the grain and from the high iron content to which it is exposed to the air. It's not good at reducing oxygen, and it competes with our leaf-eating plants, which produce oxygen using photosynthesis. But we don't eat much wheat, barley and rye, and we don't eat too much there.
